Loving our Heritage in South Africa
Today we are loving who we are, and seeing the bigger picture.
It is the 24th of September 2018.
Heritage Day.
A Day of Celebration in South Africa.
Its significance lies in recognising differences within the South African culture. Differences which are both tangible and difficult to pin down.
We communicate these differences within our creative expressions, our languages, our food; This becomes part of what we celebrate today…
We love to be Vatsonga, Sotho, Zulu, Afrikaner...
The fact that we are surviving and growing despite our tough and battled history and our current challenges, gives us all the more reason to celebrate today. Heritage Day’s events are a powerful agent for spreading a South African identity, fostering reconciliation and promoting the notion that variety is a national asset, as opposed to a burning conflict.
It is important to celebrate our roots because we know that our rich and varied cultural heritage has a profound power to help build our nation.
The Bigger picture is; The Land in which we live.
It unites all of us as a nation - and this is where the Magic lies of “being” a South African; a colourful nation of celebrated differences bound together by our LOVE for the Land.
We love to say; “I am who I am because of this country, where I was born and the culture I grew up in. I am who I am because of what I do and where I live even though I am challenged by the circumstances in South Africa. This is our ubuntu!”
Making IT* work.
We should use this celebration today to reflect and to build a united nation. We have so much potential as a nation, and waking up on the morning of 25th of September 2018, we should put our heads down and get the job done. We need to make IT work within the backdrop of our celebrated differences and work every day towards unity and prosperity for all.
Kaross aims to make IT work.
Happy Heritage Day to all!
